“Platypus Pond”
Award winning “Platypus Pond” 1st place Indigenous section in the Scotts Head Art Show 2007.
This Award winning painting is inspired by a campsite in the mountains of Dorrigo, south west of Coffs Harbour, N.S.W Australia, which is known as “Platypus Flats”.
The circles on the shoulders and bill represent water, whilst the spirits in its feet act like glistening water running off the animal.
The mixture of tonal browns and influence of small white dots, give the impression of oily fur and velvet like appearance, you can imagine droplets of water slipping or sliding from the platypus’s back.
The pebbles and sand in the background that gradually blend from one color to another, gives you the impression that the platypus is emerging from the water.
The bluest part of the pond is the deepest end, the brown being the dry ponds edge.
