Traditional Cooking Techniques
Our people did not have metal until the white man came later in our history. Without metal you would think it would be hard to cook, I mean no BBQ….???
In fact Aboriginal people have many traditional ways of cooking without the use of metal - and no we don’t get dirt in our food all the time! Even boiling water was not a hassle for us! Cooking food was a big part of our people’s lives and just like the humble BBQ today, we would congregate at the places where we prepared food, families with families, people with people.
While cooking, we would talk about hunting places and our family that are far away. We would also pass the stories and the laws to the new generations. It was a place of warmth, a place to learn and a place to grow and laugh with the family. In this section you will find out about some of the traditional ways we would cook which are still used to this day!
