Poisoned food washing and curing
Most of the foods that Aboriginal people eat have to be prepared first and it can be a lengthy and complicated process. Preparation sometimes involves soaking the foods in water, but the water must be changed regularly. Our people have come up with a great way to do this. Special baskets were made to hold food in place within a running stream.
The food that needed to be prepared would be put in the basket and covered, leaving the cool, fresh water to clean and wash the food ensuring that no poison was left. This process was a general part of our lives and information about this process was passed on from family to family.

If you’re in the bush don’t eat anything you are not sure about, if it’s not what it is supposed to be the affects can be more that just tasting bad!
