Lawyer Cane
This spiky and thorny cane was very useful to the people of north Queensland and now grows almost everywhere up there.
Baskets, eel, fish and bird traps, and even the bottom of camp beds were made from the stems of the lawyer cane.
Firstly, the stems had to be scraped to remove their many thorns and spikes. To do this small cut in the bark is made at the bottom end scand the stem is scraped up. When done properly they should all come off as easily as unzipping a zip.
